the DINING Room: green is a neutral color

Yes. Green is a neutral color when it comes to decorating. That might be a bold statement since it is a color and not always subtle (particularly the emerald I used it in my dining room).

One of my former roommates LOVED the color green. While I couldn't get 100% on board with green (I'm more of a pink gal myself), I realized that green is one of the most versatile colors to incorporate into your home decor. Think about it. It's a prominent color in nature- particularly for this room, as the house was surrounded by old oak trees and evergreens . And how many holidays can you think of where you couldn't incorporate green into a tablescape? Maybe Halloween, but I'm pretty sure I could make it work.

When I started designing this room, there were a couple of elements that I took into consideration when planning this room:

  1. I wanted the room to be formal, elegant and southern.

  2. I wanted wallpaper.

  3. The design had to compliment the adjacent Living Room... enter my lead fabric Schumacher Sinhala Fabric in Jewel (see The Palette below).

  4. The design had to compliment my Mottahedeh Blue Lace China (also in The Palette below).

THE INSPIRATION

THIS wallpaper and THIS dining room. There was something about this room that I absolutely loved. I wanted to go bold and I knew I could because this room was a little isolated from the rest of the house. Once I figured out the lead fabric from the living room (see previous post) and ordered the sofa and chairs, this pattern became a little too loud and a little too blue (not to mention, outside my price range) for the dining room, however it was the initial inspiration in the design process.

THE [almost] FINISHED PRODUCT

We moved before I could finish this room... can you see what I'm talking about? It's pretty hard to miss. The darn upholstery on the darn dining chairs. The last brush stroke on my masterpiece. The agony of not finishing this still gets to me, however if you can imagine what this room could have looked like with the right color fabric on the chairs... it would have been gorge!
